The DeSo community continues to build as the core team prepares to roll out an exciting new update.
Apps like NFTz, DeSocialWorld, and DeSo Messenger have shipped new features while projects like VerifiedCreators and Lix launch their funding rounds.
Total DAOs live on DAODAO recently hit 1300+ as efforts to build the DAO pipeline are just starting.
July may seem quiet, but you must build a launch pad first to launch a rocket into space.
Let's review all that and more in this month's DeSo ecosystem updates.
What’s New With DeSo Tech
The most anticipated update from the core team is the MetaMask integration. We don’t have an announcement yet, but we’re getting very close to completion.
We believe the future of Web3 is interoperability between blockchains. New users should be able to navigate freely from one ecosystem to another.
Right now they can’t.
Imagine if there were thousands of different internets to choose from in the early days of the internet.
It would cause a lot of confusion for new users who just wanted to enjoy this exciting new technology.
And new users are on the way as mass-adoption signals continue to pop up in the news cycle, which could no doubt add to MetaMasks robust 21 million MAUs.
All those new people will at some point interact with MetaMask, which acts as a gateway to Web3 apps.
Which in turn, becomes a gateway to DeSo.
The MetaMask integration is another way DeSo can win and get new users into the ecosystem.
Deso-protocol library
Version 0.4.0 now includes server support for reading data, constructing transactions, bug fixes, and MetaMask integrations.
DAODAO Updates
The upcoming addition of wUSD could accelerate DAODAO pipeline efforts by onboarding new DAOs concerned about volatility.
wUSD will allow DAOs to hold their treasury in USDC, curtailing volatility fears. This makes budgeting, hiring, and paying out DAO contributors much easier.
Several teams interested in launching on DAODAO say they would commit to the transition with the option of a USDC treasury.
The engineering team is also working on bridging more tokens to DAODAO later this year, including $DOGE.
Community Call
DAODAO had its first community call led by Erika Echaniz who manages community and partnerships at DAODAO and DeSo.
The community call commanded 50 community members who joined the call. If you missed it you can rewatch the recording or read through the strategy doc here.
Expect to see a community call for DAODAO every 2 - 4 weeks.
DeSo Community Project Spotlight: NFTz
NFTz is on a mission to merge a fragmented NFT space by leveraging decentralized social identity and social graphs.
Their goal is to combine communities and marketplaces in a streamlined fashion that makes collecting, creating, and selling NFTs easier and more unified across chains.
What’s New With NFTz?
NFTz is rolling out IPFS support and a holders page to show a list of who owns certain NFTs. In addition, the front page was updated to include NFT stats so traders can make more informed trading decisions.
You can also click over to the stats page and see a more robust layout for NFTs on the DeSo blockchain.
For example, if you sort to the last 30 days, you can see who the top 10 bidders and sellers are.
In this case, the mysterious metaphilosopher leads the way with $120,480 bids while znmead is the top seller at $7,895. No one knows who metaphilosopher is but he provided a much-needed jolt to the DeSo NFT market.
Lastly, the most exciting updates from the NFTz team are the incoming ETH integration and support for minting and viewing 3D NFTs.
What makes NFTz different from other NFT marketplaces is the use of “Zones.” Zones allow creators and collectors a customized marketing experience that no other NFT marketplace has.
You can add galleries of favorite NFTs, convert zones into apps, and create your own mini metaverse with added social community engagement options.
DeSocial World
DeSocial World has rolled out several new features, including one that helps you clean up the process of replying to a notification.
Notifications are now split into mentions, replies, and reposts. Once you’ve scrolled through the related list, you can choose “load more,” which also works perfectly on mobile.
This makes life much easier for creators to sort through and reply to notifications. Animated banner support is also now live.
Animated banners are stored on-chain and propagated to other apps in the DeSo ecosystem, such as DAODAO.
Additionally, as teased by Nader, DeSocial World is working on a Post2earn DAO. The DAO summary page and website will soon be live.
DeSo Messenger
Web3 Discord incoming?
The internet exploded last month over another BAYC hack as everyone started calling for a Web3 version of Discord.
Luckily for them, there’s already something in the works on the DeSo blockchain called Deso Messenger, which has shipped quite a few exciting updates in June.
The team is growing with the recent hiring of Chris Tran (Project Manager) and Dan Ward (Front End Developer), bringing the DeSo Messenger team to seven with five total developers.
The new hires allow them to start working on their native mobile app and API, enabling integrations with other applications.
DeSo Messenger already supports NFT gating chat groups; now, creator coin and DAO coin gating are also live.
Several new improvements were made to the chat experience with UX and engagement in mind. For example, you can now see who’s typing and create channels to organize the group messaging experience.
Group management controls also allow for customizing group names, descriptions, and pictures.
Incoming admin support will allow communities to appoint moderators while enabling you to archive messages to clean up your inbox and hide spam.
These upgrades are a welcome addition for Web3 communities looking for ways out of the cluttered and noisy Discord experience.
Verified Creators
At one point in 2022, the cofounder of OpenSea tweeted out that there were more NFTs on their platform than there were websites on the internet in 2010.
That’s a testament to the fact that NFTs are here to stay, but there’s also a downside.
How do traders know which projects are legit, and how do artists stand out in a sea full of scams?
VerifiedCreators aims to solve this problem.
VerifiedCreators is the first native, public, and Non-KYC identity verification designed to eliminate scammers in Web3.
During the last cycle, several notable NFT rug pulls cost holders millions of dollars.
VerifiedCreators aims to stop this by creating a trustless verification process and bringing transparency to investing in NFTs.
As an artist, you can apply for verification as either an individual or a project and will get access to the first exclusive NFT marketplace for verified creators.
This creates exciting market dynamics for verified NFT projects. For example, will people value verified projects more?
Will users only make trades on a verified NFT platform?
Only time will tell.
The VerifiedCreators funding round is now live on DAODAO. Check out their one-pager for more information.
Lix DAO: Bringing NFT Staking to DeSo
NFTs are fun to buy and trade but are a volatile and illiquid asset type.
Floors can drop fast especially when holders panic which hurts community engagement.
Lix aims to change this by giving creators a system to reward their collectors for holding their NFTs long-term.
Lix NFT staking has the ability to:
Drive more community engagement
Create higher trading volume
Eliminate some volatility
Raise floors
The LIX DAO has also just launched its funding round on DAODAO with a goal of raising $10,000.
The initial feature will be NFT staking and they will add additional features along the way.
The LIX team is led by Clay Oglesby (Co-founder & product designer), Nathan Wells (Co-founder & full-stack developer), and cfky (Co-founder & full-stack developer).
One Clout
It can be a tough sell for creators with already established audiences on Web2 social media to drop everything and rebuild on DeSo.
However, projects like OneClout make it easy to become Web3 creators without starting from scratch.
You can now cross-post your Twitter threads between DeSo and Twitter. Everything is replicated, including images.
Support for GIFs and videos is coming soon.
Lastly, a new feature that will replace a Twitter user @mention with a DeSo user @mention is also on the way.
NameTrade
As we move towards a digital-first world, the value of our digital identities is skyrocketing. In some weird way, digital identity is becoming more impactful than our IRL identity.
How people perceive us online can create many opportunities, especially as work from home becomes commonplace.
Ask anyone on Twitter or LinkedIn who has successfully fundraised or built online communities and you’ll hear stories about how they met investors or co-founders through these platforms.
Your online name becomes a brand you can leverage and build on top of for a very long time.
This is especially true of Web3, where usernames are just about everything.
But what if someone already owns the Web3 username that you want?
Thanks to NameTrade you can buy a username owned by someone else on DeSo.
The NameTrade founder calls his project ENS on steroids!
Why?
Usernames on DeSo are non-fungible, scarce, searchable, and something you could build a blockchain brand on top of.
After a recent ENS name sold for 300 ETH, it’s exciting to think about what could happen on DeSo as more users join the network.
NameTrade is also now a DAO and is live on DAODAO.
Smart Stream
Smart Stream is an app that allows you to enable subscriptions on DeSo.
The backend is working, and they are currently integrating with existing DeSo apps like Entre, where you will soon be able to become a pro member by subscribing to DeSo.
The most remarkable feature is a creator dashboard that allows you to become a vendor and create a subscription service for premium content.
This creates another revenue stream and incentivizes Web2 creators to switch to DeSo and build an audience.
Currently, DAO payments are difficult to manage due to some activities happening off-chain.
Smart Stream allows you to pay DAO contributors by executing payroll in an automated way.
There is a demo of the tool coming soon!
Web3 Simplified DAO
Web3 Simplified is a DAO by John Jardin that focuses on creating a community of investors to simplify all things related to Web3.
The DAO aims to do this by creating easy-to-understand educational content in video, audio, and text format.
John has a YouTube series with several videos already created to help new people onboard into the DeSo ecosystem.
If you’re new to DeSo, check it out and subscribe to the channel.
Sacred Skulls Secret Society
Sacred Skulls Secret Society is the 1st generative 3D PFP NFT community on the DeSo Blockchain.
They have officially sold out 666 of 999 NFTs (2/3) on the primary market at a mint price of 0.999 DeSo each. They decided to reserve the remaining 333 NFTs (1/3) divided into 3 parts:- 111 donated to @SSSSDAO to raise money for its treasury.
111 to be used for giveaways/raffles on Twitter, IG, TikTok, etc.- 111 to be airdropped to "active" influential People here on DeSo.
You can buy them now on the secondary market at NFTz.Their largest secondary sale to date was purchased by @metaphilosopher at 666 DeSo.
Keep an eye out for a new web app with their own buy, sell, and trade marketplace and SSSS merch for members only dropping soon.
