There are a lot of great apps already built in the DeSo ecosystem that can help solve the problem of centralized social media platforms.
We’re going to take some time to highlight them on the foundation website.
This is the first in a series that will highlight founders, creators, and developers who are building the future of decentralized social media.
This week we’re highlighting Vibehut.io and founder Chris Dolinski. Chris explains his background and how he ended up building in Web3.
Vibehut is the first 1-on-1 social video platform that cross-connects social Web2 platforms and Web3 blockchains.
After you give it a read, definitely take a few minutes and try out Vibehut!
What's your Background?
I've been combining software and business to automate and make people's lives easier for the last decade. After graduating from business school, I worked at a couple of large financial institutions and quickly began writing software.
After gaining enough experience, I took a leap with my brother and we started building startups. Several small ones, UseHappen.com which is an interest-based bookmarking platform, and Clutch.ca which buys and sells used cars online. DeSo was my first real look at Web3.
What Are You Building on DeSo
Vibehut is the first 1-on-1 social video platform that cross-connects social Web2 platforms and Web3 blockchains. In one-click you can instantly match with leading influencers, creators, and builders, based on follower count, coin price, or NFT ownership.
Vibehut allows you to log in with your popular social or crypto accounts such as DeSo, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and MetaMask. Vibehut is the best way to instantly match with like-minded people. An epic new connection is 1-click away.
Why did you choose DeSo?
DeSo was interesting because it combined social media with the idea of creator coins. There was a ton of hype and an unusually high number of global industry leaders on the platform. People were active, supportive, and starting to build different apps.
What do you like about building on DeSo?
Building on DeSo is great for a number of reasons. One of the best is that there is an active community of users that are thoughtful and willing to provide feedback. There is an open API that makes it easy to integrate with and it seems like it's by far the most mature social Layer- 1 blockchain available.
What are some use cases for your app?
Cold outreach and DMs are generally noisy and have low conversion rates. Instead of sending more messages to people who don't want to talk, Vibehut.io is a video platform that connects people who want to talk.
Anyone can log in with their existing social accounts and have a video conversation with another person with one-click. The app is built to help communities network, influencers collaborate with each other, and creators quickly get feedback on what they are working on.
Why is building out decentralized social media important?
Online social media is a brand new idea, it's seen the majority of its growth in the last 10 years and continues to evolve. Decentralizing social offers another look at our social graph and how we interact with it.
